LCD vs LED Technology

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode, mounting led chip directly on PCB. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display, use fluorescent lights.

Dimensions and Slimness

LED displays win in terms of dimension and thickness.

light emitting diodes (LED displays) are much smaller compared to the fluorescent lamps used in LCD displays. Because diodes are assembled in the same plane, so the thickness will not increase no matter how many diodes are present.

LED displays is modular in nature. LED panels fit together seamlessly and can be used to make displays to fit any space.  Even it can be customized into unusual shape or dimensions, such as circle, cube and so on. LCD displays limited to specific sets of dimensions. There are seams if fit them together.

Picture Quality

Generally speaking, LED displays have better picture quality compared to LCD displays. With modular light-emitting diodes, LED screen can better control over the contrast, rendering a clear picture. Also, LED provides RGB contrast, it can show truer blacks and truer whites. What is more, led displays have a dimming property, allows them to display accurate colors by blocking excessive light. Now led display already achieve 3D technology effects.

 For viewing angle, there is usually no difference between led and lcd. This instead depends on the quality of glass panel used.

Energy-saving

LED displays are more energy efficient, They are compatible with generators and solar panels, about 20% to 30% more energy-efficient than LCD displays.

Life Span

LED display has longer lifespan than LCD display. For led display, generally has a lifespan of more than 100,000 hours. On the other hand, A LCD screen typically has 50,000 hours lifetime .

Maintenance

LED screen is easier to maintained, a lot of smaller diodes are used in led screen, you can replace the damaged diode accordingly. In an LCD, you will need to replace the whole screen in case of damage. So LED display is easier and cheaper to maintain than LCD display.

Cost

If only considering price in a short run, Since LEDs are a better and newer technology, the price of an LED display is higher than an LCD. Stand in a long run, considering all factors, such as maintenance, lifespan and usage, led display is cheaper than lcd display.
